Children's sermon during 8:15
and 11:00 Service

Our clean and safe nursery is available all morning for children
up to age two.

Our choir performs regularly.

Worship at Northminster Presbyterian Church

Worship is at the heart of Northminster. One of our confessions says "the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy him forever." We believe worship to be an enjoyable experience. But more than that, we believe human beings were created to worship and we are at our best when we worship. However, different churches have different ways of worshiping God. We hold three services on Sunday and offer something different in each service.

8:15 a.m. Blended Service

Our earliest service is held in the Sanctuary. It is considered “blended” because both contemporary and traditional styles of music are incorporated. The opening songs are more modern and a hymn is included later in the service. Traditional responses and prayers are spoken aloud or sung.

A special time for children, the Children’s Sermon, is included in this service. After the children’s message, children that are three-years-old through kindergarten are invited to attend Children’s Worship. First through Fifth graders are invited to attend Junior Church. On Communion Sundays, Junior Church is not offered so that children may commune with their parents. A clean and safe nursery is provided for children two years and younger.

Communion is served the first Sunday of each month. We believe in offering communion to everyone, member and non-member alike. All Christians are encouraged to receive communion as often as it is offered. Baptisms are also celebrated at this service.

9:45 a.m. Blended Service

The second of our Sunday services, also held in the Sanctuary, is very similar to the 8:15 service. The 9:45 service has a more traditional feel, but it is still blended in style. While this service opens with contemporary songs, it also includes two hymns. Traditional responses and prayers are spoken aloud or sung and additional liturgical responses are included.

Because Sunday School is held at this time, Children’s Sermon, Children’s Worship, and Junior Church are not offered during this service. Children are welcome to attend this service but most children attend Sunday School. The nursery is open for children two and younger.

Christian Education classes for youth and adults are also offered during this hour. Current adult Christian Education topics and room locations are listed in the weekly bulletin. Maps are located in the Centrum for classes of all age groups.

As in our other services, Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month. Baptisms are also celebrated during this service. Baptism at Northminster includes infants and children, as well as adults who have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ but have never been previously baptized.

11:00 a.m. Contemporary Service

Our Contemporary service takes place in the Trinity Room. The worship style is contemporary and informal. A large portion of the service is dedicated to singing and rejoicing. Worshipers are not expected to know memorized prayers or liturgy since the goal of this service style is to make everyone feel as comfortable and included as possible, even if they lack experience in church.

The same sermon is offered during this service as our blended services but it is delivered in a less formal style. As in our 8:15 Blended Service, a Children’s Sermon is delivered then Children may attend Children’s Worship and Junior Church. The nursery is provided for children two and younger.

Communion is offered on the first Sunday of each month in a style called intinction. Rather than being served as they remain in the pews, worshipers come forward to receive the elements of bread and juice. Baptisms are also celebrated during this service.
