Sponsor FAQs

Who Should I Ask To Be a Guest?

Select a guest who wishes to strengthen his/her spiritual life; who wants to have a better understanding of prayer, the sacraments, study and Christian action; who strives to live a Christian life that bears fruit for God; or who seeks to know Jesus as Savior and Lord and to make Him known. And remember men can sponsor women and women can sponsor men. Click here for some helpful information on How to Ask Someone to the Great Banquet.

Is There a Website I Can Send Potential Guests?

Yes. The church website has a page for people interested in knowing about Great Banquet which is different than our community page: https://www.northminster.us/ministries/great-banquet

What Information Can I Share About the Great Banquet?

Just tell your Great Banquet story! Share what happened to you during your Banquet experience. Tell them about the talks that impacted you, meaningful chapel visits, or worship services that spoke to your heart. If they have questions, answer them honestly—but without giving away the specifics. Try to avoid sharing details about Agape gifts and the Candlelight Service so that future guests can experience those moments for themselves.

What Is the Next Step After My Guest Has Said “Yes”?

Ask him/her to fill out a Guest Registration Form here.
You should fill out the Sponsor Form here.

Do I Have To Pay For My Guest to Attend Great Banquet?

No. There is a $10 registration fee, which you can pay for your guest or have them pay themselves. If you would like to cover the cost of your guest’s entire weekend, you can do that as well. The cost is $75 per guest, but this is completely optional. If paying online, click here. If paying by check, make it payable to Northminster and write “GB Registration” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to:
     Northminster Presbyterian Church
     10720 N Knoxville Ave
     Peoria, IL 61615

What About Getting Agape Letters For My Guest?

You are responsible for making sure your guest receives Agape letters during the Great Banquet. Ask your guest’s spouse, family members, and friends to write a letter sharing their love, encouragement, and support. You should also write a letter yourself! Family letters should have an “F” on the envelope so they can be opened first.

If you don’t have contact information for your guest’s family or friends, reach out to the GB Leadership Team at peoriagreatbanquet@gmail.com. They can help you find out who your guest listed as their emergency contact so you can begin asking for letters.

Here is a sample letter you can send requesting letters from family and friends.

What Should I Tell My Guest to Pack?
  • Comfortable clothes, shoes/slippers, pajamas, jackets, etc.
  • Bedding such as sheets, blanket (or sleeping bag) and pillow for their cot
  • Towel and toiletries
  • A water bottle or coffee mug (optional).
  • Bibles, notebooks and writing materials are provided, but they can bring their own if they desire
  • They should not bring a watch, camera, cell phone, Kindle or any other electronic devices

What If My Guest Can No Longer Attend?

You can email the GB Leadership Team at peoriagreatbanquet@gmail.com. Continue to pray for him/her to be open to attending a future weekend.

What Is Are my Responsibilities During the Weekend?
  1. Bring your guest to the church on Thursday night, 7:00pm. Help them find their room and show them important rooms in the church (showers, dining room, chapel, Trinity Room, etc.)
  2. Attend Sponsor’s Hour (Thursday about 7:35pm) – this is when you pray over guest’s cross.
  3. Attend Candlelight (8:30pm Saturday) and Closing (4:00pm Sunday).
  4. Take your guest home after the Closing.

What If I’m On the Team?

Bring your guest on Thursday (7:00pm) and take them home following the weekend. Someone from the community will pray over your guest’s cross.

What About After the Weekend?

Encourage your guest to Fourth Day Group Meeting. If they cannot attend, contact the Fourth Day Group coordinators at peoriagreatbanquet@gmail.com to see what groups may be available for your guest to join.

If your guest is not already involved in a church, invite them to yours or suggest one they may want to consider. Participating in the fellowship and ministry of the church will do a lot to deepen their relationship with God.
